Everything You Need to Know About Exuma!

This was one of the most incredible trips I’ve been on. It also happens to be the most asked about. So to easily answer all your questions, here’s everything you need to know about Exuma. If you have any other questions, drop them in the comments and I’ll be sure to answer.
What to Expect
Exuma is so incredibly slow-paced. There’s nothing you have to do but there’s more than enough to explore. There’s no shopping, gambling or partying like you’d expect from Nassau and with a population of less than 8,000 people, it will feel like you’re alone if you catch it at the right time. If you’re looking to unwind and completely relax, this is your place.
Best Time of Year: According to the locals, the best time to go is during the winter but it’s also crowded. We went the week before Memorial Day and seemingly had the place to ourselves. It’s best to avoid June through October as that’s the rainy season.
Climate: Simply amazing. The temps were in the low 80s during the day and the low 70s at night. It’s supposedly humid but the light wind makes the sun and humidity seem non-existent. I’m from DC though where it feels like a swamp in the summer so I’m slightly jaded. Make sure to bring a small sweater for the nights because it does get breezy.
Transportation: Be prepared to drive on the “wrong” side of the road. If you’re not comfortable with that, taxis are easily accessible and very reasonably priced.
Kids or No Kids?
I did not have my babies with me but I would absolutely bring them to Exuma. The little ones will love the shallow waters and soft sand and the older ones will love the excursions. There is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

Where I Stayed
The Grand Isle Resort is where I spent my 3 nights and 4 days. Each villa comes equipped with a full size kitchen and a washer/dryer. You can also rent a golf cart for a nominal fee. I highly recommend the golf cart because the resort is huge and it’s so much fun.
Fowl Cay is another resort option. These villas are all inclusive and provide you with your own boat and golf cart. This was my first choice but they were fully booked.
Where I Ate
The Palapa Grill: On resort and super convenient to grab a quick breakfast and serves lunch pool side. Just beware, the espresso is ridiculously overpriced. $24 later…..
23 North: This new restaurant just opened at Grand Isle this year. The sea bass is the most amazing I’ve ever had and the setting is pure Bahamian perfection.
La Fourchette: A quaint little French restaurant a quick 5-minute drive or cab ride away from Grand Isle. The food isn’t Michelin star worthy but the atmosphere makes up for it.
Things to Do
Take a boat tour of the cays. There are 365 islands that make up the Bahamas, one for each day of the year
Swim with the big pigs and hug the baby pigs.
Iguana island – these cute little things don’t get enough love. Go see them please.
Snorkeling in the caribbean is like swimming in the middle of an aquarium. The colors are absolutely breathtaking. You may even see a few baby sharks
Paddle board in the most beautiful water you’ve ever seen
Meet new people, sing karaoke and laugh until your heart is full.
