My Experience with the Getaway House!

Let me preface this by saying that I don’t camp. I’m terrified of bugs and bears and all things woodsy but my experience with the Getaway House was simply amazing for the following reasons:

  1. It’s incredibly uncomplicated.

  2. From check-in, to check-out and everything in between, it couldn’t have been any easier. You can unlock your door via text. Like, what?

  3. You don’t have to do anything but there’s plenty to do if you want!

  4. Walking trails, fire pits, s’mores and much more! There’s plenty of space to workout in the woods and if you’re so inclined, bring a set of dumbbells. Check out this article I contributed to for some fitness tips!

  5. It forces you to just “be”.

  6. As civilized humans with unlimited options, we seem to complicate even the simplest tasks. The Getaway House brings it all back to nature but you still get hot water and a toilet.

Things to Do:

  1. Early Mountain Vineyards

  2. It’s 12 minutes from the Getaway House. Need I say more?

  3. Grab a flight or do a tasting and explore the vineyard. Its also a prime place for weddings plus they serve food! I may or may not have ordered a chicken sandwich to go.

  4. Make a reservation ahead of time. Outside tables are in high demand!

  1. Blue Hole and Big Branch Falls

  2. Head 35 minutes west towards Shenandoah and explore Blue Hole and Big Branch Falls.

  3. Make sure you screenshot directions as cell service is nonexistent in the woods.

  1. Visit Charlottesville

  2. After our hike, we had to make a pitstop to charge Eleanor. Fortunately there was a Tesla supercharger in Charlottesville which was walking distance to a shopping center.

  3. Grab a bite to eat and new shoes if you happen to fall in the water on your hike!

  4. The Burger Bach is where I had the best chicken sandwich ever. Not exaggerating. They don’t keep freezers on the premises, so everything is ridiculously fresh. And because they don’t have freezers, that means no dessert but don’t fret….Duck Donuts is around the corner. Did I mention I’m terrible at camping?
